About Cardiff
Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales. Cardiff combines the energy of a lively city with the friendliness of a small town. Cardiff contrasts an Edwardian shopping centre next to a modern shopping complex and a new and vibrant waterfront development in Cardiff Bay.
Cardiff is of course famous for the mighty Millennium Stadium, host to the 1999 Rugby World Cup and also home to several sporting and music events. The English F.A. Cup has brought Cardiff further into the International Sporting spotlight and the Millennium Stadium is also now regarded as one of the 'hotspots' for musical entertainment, having hosted Madonna, Sting, Eric Clapton, The Stereophonics and Take That, to name but a few.
The National Museum of Wales has one of the best art collections in Britain and one of the finest collections of French Impressionism in the world.
Cardiff Bay is home to the Welsh Assembly Government and much of the media in Wales. Doctor Who and Torchwood, along with other television series, are filmed mostly within the City and County of Cardiff. It has the biggest media sector in the UK outside London, being home to several television studios and radio stations.
Cardiff is an ideal place to be a student. The city is home to two large universities as well as the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. It is conveniently located near the M4 motorway and has excellent links with the UK’s capital, London, taking just two hours to reach by train or car.
